The purpose of a foster home is to provide a home environment while evaluating a rescue pet’s behavior around other pets, children, and to observe the animal's personality, attitude and temperament. Some may need help with something, whether it's house-training, separation anxiety, shyness, jumping on people or just plain house manners. Our foster families help the dogs and cats we rescue to become better pets which in turn helps them to more easily adapt to their new forever homes. Not all pet's that come into rescue have behavioral problems, some are already low maintenance and only need a place to rest their head while they wait for the right forever family to come along.
The rescue covers the cost of the spay/neuter and all vaccinations as well as other needed medical care.
Foster homes can either provide their own food and supplies, or VPR can supply them.
Fosters are asked to take their foster pet to an approved veterinary clinic for all medical services.
Foster homes always supply safe shelter, understanding, patience and lots of love.
Families (or individuals) who are interested in fostering are asked to fill out an application form. (See the link at the bottom of the page). After the application has been approved by one of our foster home coordinators, we will be in touch with you to discuss fostering in more detail.
A lot of people are hesitant to try fostering because it is easy to grow attached to a rescue and it can be hard to see them leave. So what is the worst thing that can happen? You would have another wonderful addition to your own family. That's not such a bad thing is it? For those who are able to let them go on to their forever home ... there's nothing more satisfying than knowing they will be healthy, happy and loved. It's a great feeling to know that you played such an important role in that pet’s life ... not to mention what joy you brought in to their new families life!
Please think about opening up your home to the "homeless." We can promise you the experience may not be easy, but it is always rewarding!
