Vet-Pet Rescue needs the help of many volunteers in order to rescue dogs, cats, kittens and puppies, care for them, and place them in loving homes. Even if you only have a couple hours per week, or a couple hours per month, that's enough time to make a difference.
Volunteering teaches kids that it's good to care about others, both people and animals, so consider volunteering as a family!
Do you have skills in your "real" life that could be used to help the dogs and cats? The types of skills that could help are marketing, advertising, training, grooming, graphic design, word processing, web site, and many more.
Do you have a hobby or craft that could be used to help the dogs and cats? Things that might help are crafts or baked goods (for the pets) that can be sold to raise money. Sewing and/or decorating bandanas or collar covers. Making decorative jewelry collars. Decorating t-shirts for the volunteers to wear at events. Creating signs and/or donation jars. What else can you think of?
Looking to get more exercise? Volunteer to walk, play with, and socialize the dogs that are being kenneled because a foster home isn't available. Consider teaching them some obedience commands while you're at it to help make them more adoptable. Dogs are usually kenneled at Clarkson-Wilson Vet Clinic in Chesterfield.
Like cats or kittens but can't have one due to the allergies of other family members? Consider spending some time brushing, petting and playing with cats and kittens that are being kenneled because a foster home isn't available. They are usually kenneled at Clarkson-Wilson Vet Clinic in Chesterfield.
Are you available during normal business days? Consider offering to give a foster kitten or puppy a ride to the vet. A lot of our foster parents work full-time so making the time for routine vet visits is difficult and kittens and puppies often need trips for updating shots, stool checks, etc.
Do you have the gift of gab? Like to meet new people? Consider helping out at adoption events. Help is always needed to talk to potential adopters. Adoption events are held on weekends at various locations including the Pet Supplies Plus in Ballwin, the PetSmart's in St. Charles, Bridgeton and Arnold.
Do you have a large network of friends and family? Do you feel comfortable talking to strangers? Consider helping out by spreading the word about pet adoption and Vet-Pet Rescue. Hand out flyers, business cards, post cards. In line at the grocery store chat up the other people in line, or tell the clerk about Vet-Pet. Ask your local store if you can hand out flyers by the door or hang a flyer in the window. Ask your doctor's office, hair dresser, etc. Talk to your church to see about posting or handing out flyers.
Do you enjoy planning and organizing? Consider organizing a donation drive to collect items that are always needed like food, kitty litter, beds, etc. Consider organizing a fundraising event such as a trivia night, spaghetti dinner, or garage sale.
